Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects of capsule endoscopy for patients with small bowel disease. Methods One hundred and twenty-eight patients with clinical manifestations who would accept capsule endoscopy were divided into group A(with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding) and B(with unexplained abdominal pain and diarrhea). The results of capsule endoscopy and clinical significance of positive rate were analyzed. Results The total positive rate of capsule endoscopy was 36.00%(46/128),The positive rate of group A and group B was 58.62%(17/29) and 29.30%(29/99),respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P0.01).Conclusion The value of capsule endoscopy on diagnosis of obscure gastrointestinal bleeding is better than that of unexplained abdominal pain and diarrhea.Capsule endoscopy can be as a former first-line screening method.
