On the Contribution of the Medici Family to the Italian Renaissance

The city of Florence, where the European Renaissance originated, was the cradle of the Italian Renaissance. As the governor of Florence during the mid and late Renaissance period, the Medici family provided superb environment of work for the literati and artists at the time, as the family adopted long-term policies of protecting and financing the literati and artists, engaged in the construction of municipal infrastructure, and encouraged the collection of antiques. Pope Leone X and Pope Clemente ⅡV, who were from the Medici family, also made important contributions in Rome to the Italian culture and arts.It can be concluded that the Medici family was one of the prominent promoters of the Italian Renaissance.
