Based on the Emergency Information to Investigate the Situation of Emergency Department Overcrowding in Our Hospital

Abstract

Objective We investigated the situation of emergency department overcrowding in our hospital in order to provide the basis for strengthening the triage of emergency patients,ease the emergency crowding,and improve the quality of emergency medical services. Methods We retrospectively analyzed patients whose residence time were more than 48 hours in our emergency department from November 2014 to February 2015 throuth emergency information database. Results There are 231 patients who were stayed more than 48 hours in our emergency department from November 2014 to February2015. The retention patients were suffered from different diseases mainly including nervous system,cardiovascular system,and digestive system diseases. Gradual completion of patient diagnosis,lack of ward beds and other factors were main reasons for the emergency department overcrowding. Conclusion The situation of emergency department overcrowding in our hospital is more serious,need efforts from emergency medical personnels,patients and their family,each specialized wards,the hospital and other various aspects.
