A NEW GENUS AND SPECIES OF TROPIDOCEPHALINI (HOMOPTERA:DELPHACIDAE)

Abstract

In the present paper,a new genus and species of Tropidocephalini are described from Guizhou Province, China. The types specimens are deposited in the Institute of Entomology,Guizhou University. Carinofrons Chen et Li, gen. nov. Head including eyes narrower than pronotum,vertex quadrate, shorter medially than wide at base. Frons in median line longer than wide at widest part(2.3∶1 0),widest at about the middle, carinae well developed,especially the lateral carina, median carina forked at basal 1/3. Antennae cylindrical, first segment longer than wide, second segment longer than first (2∶1), reaching to the middle of postclypeus. Pronotum with lateral carinae not reaching hind margin, mesonotum longer than the length of vertex and pronotum put together. Spur large and thick,concave on inner surface,with a small apical tooth and no teeth along the hind margin. Anal segment of male ring like. Pygofer in posterior view with opening longer than wide obviously,V like. Diaphragm with processes at dorsal margin. Aedeagus simple,tubular. Genital styles with apical half curves like. The nature of the spur places this genus in the Tropidocephalini. Somewhat similar to Paranectopia Ding et Tian,but can be separated from the latter by the following characters: 1) head including eyes narrower than pronotum; 2)frons with lateral carinae well developed, median carina forked at basal 1/3; 3)antennae reaching to the middle of postclypeus; 4)the carinae of vertex and frons distinct. Body dark yellowish brown with blackish brown markings.Vertex with carinae pale brown to brown, the areas between carinae blackish brown. Frons, gena blackish brown,lateral carinae yellowish brown, postclypeus brown, anteclypeus dark brown.Antennae with apax of first segment and base of second segment dark brown. Pro ,mosonotum blackish brown,except lateral areas and median carina yellowish white.Forewing with yellowish brown or blackish brown markings,as in Figs.4 5. Holotype♂(macropterous), paratypes 2♂♂,1♀(coelopterous), Wangmo(1?200?m, 25°11′N ,106°25′E),Guizhou Province,28. Ⅶ . 1998, coll. CHEN Xiang Sheng.
