Abstract

Accumulations of selenium in pacific oyster cultured in seawater were achieved by adding selenite(Na2SeO3).Biotransformation and distribution of selenium in the oyster was investigated through measuring the selenium of biological samples and different positions. The results showed that the total selenium content in oyster(fresh weight) is(0.638±0.079) μg/g before accumulation. After exposed in seawater containing 15 μg/mL Na2SeO3for 3 days, the concentration of total selenium is(4.049±0.340) μg/g while the organic selenium(3.159±0.229) μg/g and the inorganic selenium(0.890±0.082) μg/g.The result shows that selenium is predominately present as organic selenium. The concentrations of selenium in different positions ascend in 3 days. And the increase of organic selenium is observably more than inorganic selenium. This implies that pacific oyster could effectively accumulate selenium and transform inorganic selenium into organic selenium by metabolism.
