Abstract
AIM:To investigate the effects of icariin on the proliferation and expression of osteoprotegerin(OPG) mRNA of the human periodontal ligament cells(HPDLC).METHODS:HPDLC were cultured in vitro and stimulated with icariin winh different concentrations(0.001~10 μg/mL) for 0,24,48,72 and 96 hours. The ability of proliferation of HPDLC was detected by MTT method and RT-PCR was used to examine the expression of OPG mRNA in HPDLC.RESULTS:The proliferation and expression of OPG mRNA of HPDLC were stimulated by icariin((P0.05)),and the most efficient concentration was 0.1 μg/mL(P0.01).CONCLUSION:Icariin may upregulate the expression of OPG mRNA in HPDLC by stimulating its proliferation.
