Clinical Significance of Detecting Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor in Patients with Non-small-cell Lung Carcinoma

Abstract

To evaluate the role of serum vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)level as a factor in prejudging prognos is in patients with non-small-cell lung carcinoma.Methods:Serum VEGF levels of54patients with non-small-cell lung carcinoma were detected by ELISA.The relation between serum VEGF level and TNM classification and survival time were analyzed.Results:Serum VEGF level was correlated with tumor local extension.The serum VEGF level was higher in the patients with T 3 -T 4 than that in the patients with T 1 -T 2 [69.2%(27/39)versus13.3%(2/15)],P0.01).Serum VEGF level was also correlated with lymph nodes and distant metastasis(P0.01,P0.05).In patients survived for more than6months,37.5%(9/24)had serum VEGF level elevated,while for those survived for less than6months,66.7%(20/30)had serum VEGF level elevated(P0.05).Conclusion:Serum VEGF level is correlated with progression and survival in patients with non-small-cell lung carcinoma,and it is an effective prognostic factor for non-small-cell lung cancer.
