Abstract

Pollutants removal efficiency and membrane fouling in activated sludge-membrane bioreactor (MBR), biofilm-MBR, and composite MBR were studied. The result shows that in activated sludge-MBR, the least membrane fouling is observed and is easy to be removed, and membrane flux is reduced at the lowest rate. The biofilm-MBR has the heaviest membrane fouling and membrane flux is reduced at the most rapid rate. More air intensive aeration can alleviate the membrane fouling and slow down the reduction rate of membrane flux.
