Abstract
MS8.0 Wenchuan earthquake brought about serious buildings damage and casualties in western Sichuan. Now that earthquake prediction has not yet resolved scientifically at present, our emphasis of earthquake prevention and earthquake disaster mitigation should be put on how to improve capacity of fortification against earthquakes of industrial and civil buildings. In this paper, according to seismic protection and the Code for Seismic Design of Buildings, typical buildings damage and its causes were analysed and discussed from buildings location, seismic design, buildings construction and other aspects. It is suggested that corresponding measures which can provide experience and basis for seismic protection of buildings.
