Abstract
Taking the Yonjiang watershed in southeast China as an example, the approaches and methods of geographic information system applied to flood alert and flood disaster control and reduction system on medium and small basin are explored. Then, decision support system for flood control in the Yongjiang basin has been set up, which results in the preliminary realization of flood dynamic monitoring, flood forecasting, flood losses evaluation and flood regulation. This greatly improves flood proofing decision making capacities in medium and small river basin and provides valuable information and a mode for the set-up of decision support system for flood prevention and reduction in the river basin.
