Abstract
AIM: To compare the long-term clinical effects of two prosthodontic designs for mandibular molars after hemisection.METHODS: 112 mandibular molars with vertical root fracture were treated.Hemisection was performd and root canal therapy was conducted on the roots to be retained.Rigid fixed bridge(RFB,n=60) and cantilever fixed bridge(CFB,n=48) were respectively allowed after the surgery and the clinical effects were evaluated after 12 m,24 m and 36 m respectively.RESULTS: 12 months after tretment success rates of RFB and CFB were 100% and 95.83%(P0.05),24 months after tretment 89.66% and 71.74%(P0.05),36 months after tretment 88.37% and 35.48%(P0.05) respectively.CONCLUSION: After hemisection therapy on the mandibular molars with vertical root fracture rigid fixed bridge can achieve better long-term efficacy than cantilever fixed bridge.
