Abstract

Zhu Xi and Lu Zuqian are the principal critics of the derogative comments on the Zheng music. It is assumed that Zhu Xi confuses the music with songs, but insists that the derogative Zheng music is the product of asceticism in contrary to the Cheng-Zhu school of science. Lu Zuqian, however, believes that The Book of Songs is composed of both elegant and popular music, with all the songs positive. This is in accordance with the Confucian intentions, but subject to the flattering of the politics.
