Abstract

Objective To study the correlations between the internet addiction and general well-being,self consistency and congruence, personality and psychological characteristics among medical students, and provide scientific basis for the early detection and intervention of internet addiction. Methods The survey was carried out in 526 undergraduates by using the IAII,GWB,EPQ,SCCS and SCL-90 rating scales. Results The incidence rate of internet addiction in boys was higher than that in girls, and had a statistically significant difference(P0.05).The difference in the rate was still found in Grades(P0.05),the rate is highest in junior and lowest in freshman, there was no linear trend(P0.05).Compared with the non-addictive group, the students in the addiction group were mostly with introversion, low level of psychological health, low degree of happiness and harmony. The multiplicity showed that the internet addiction has correlations to grade, gender, nervous, anxious, general well-being and self-disharmony.Conclusion Early screening and early intervention are the effective measures to prevent medical undergraduates from internet addiction.
