3D-PIV measurements of flow fields at exit to impeller of an axial flow pump

Abstract

In order to fully reveal the laws of the flow fields at the exit to the impeller of an axial flow pump,the flow fields of a modified axial flow pump under the working conditions of design,high efficiency area,saddle area,low and high flows were measured by use of the 3D-PIV technology.The post-processing of the data was performed by means of TSI Incorporated's Insight and Tecplot software.The spatial streamline images and the nephorgams of 3D velocity in the test area of the impeller under various working conditions were obtained.The test results indicate that the flow fields at the exit to the impeller of the axial flow pump have an outward motion trend in spiral shaped,and the water has obvious 3D flow characteristics.Using 3D-PIV technology to study the flow fields of the axial flow pump is feasible,which can reflect the actual situation of the 3D flow field,and it provides a reference for the design of axial flow pumps so as to verify the numerical results of the flow fields at the exit to the impeller of axial flow pumps by use of CFD mathematical models.
