Abstract

Objective To explore the long-term effectiveness of the uvulopalatopharyngoplasty(UPPP) combined by oral appliance(OA) in treatment of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods The 20 patients with severe OSAHS confirmed by polysomnography(PSG) according to their apnea-hypopnea index(AHI) and SaO2 in sleep were divided into only UPPP group and UPPP with OA group. The follow up was 3 years.PSG performed in half a year and 3 years after operation.AHI and SaO2 were tested and the effectiveness was evaluated by the results. Results The effectiveness of combination treatment group was better than the only UPPP group after 3 year, but the effectiveness of two groups was the same after 0.5 year. Conclusion The effectiveness of combination treatment group is better than the UPPP group in long term observation.
