Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effect of cervical cerclage on treatment of cervical incompetence and placenta previa. Methods:Retrospectively studying a total of 79 women treated with cervical cerclage for the cervical incompetence in our hospital from Jan.1996 to Dec.2009.Results: Seventy-nine cases of cervical incompetence treated with cervical cerclage with an average age of 30.91±4.08.In these cases,76 women got successful pregnancy outcome, the successful rate was 96.20%.In 26 cases of elective cerclage,25 women got successful pregnancy outcome, the successful rate was 96.20%.In the therapeutic cerclage, all of the 44 cases had got successful pregnancy outcome. There are 9 women in the emergency cerclage group, the successful rate of the operation was 77.78%.In the elective cerclage group, these women who were cerclaged before 20th gestation week, could get heavier neonate birth weight and longer gestational weeks than the women who were cerclaged after 20th gestation week.(2550.36±792.68g versus 2552.14±562.28g;261.83±9.89days versus 243.64±26.04).In the elective cerclage group, these women who had a history of 3 or more times abortion could get heavier neonate birth weight and longer gestational weeks than the women with a history of abortion less the 3 times(3025.00±524.81g versus 2550.36±792.68g;261.50 ±10.97days versus 237.10±27.05days).The same result was discovered in the therapeutic cerclage group, these women who had a history of 3 or more times abortion could get heavier neonate birth weight and longer gestational weeks than the women with a history of abortion less the 3 times(2943.93±377.956g versus 2552.14±562.28g;263.86±9.88days versus 248.07±18.94days).Conclusions:The effect of cervical cerclage on treatment of cervical incompetence is affirmed. The women with a history of 3 or more times abortion can get a better outcome. The best time to do a elective cerclage is before the gestional age of 20 weeks. An emergency cerclage can be beneficial in reducing the risk of cervical incompetence.
