Abstract
Hemingway' s novel writing displays his good mastery of modern narrative art in his employment of the narrative language and character language. The features of Hemingway' s narrative language can be found in the following four aspects: the employment of word prompt; writing with nouns and verbs; the employment of emotional language and ,poetic scenes; the careful choice and restriction of the narrative language. In the aspect of his character language (including dialogues and monologues) , Hemingway created a new writing style by replacing the traditional description, narration, comments and explanation with the character language.
