Abstract
Electroless nickel plating on magnesium-lithium alloy was studied, and an appropriate pretreatment was determined.Scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) were used to investigate the morphology and the phase composition of the coating.Electrochemical analysis and micro-hardness test were performed to evaluate the properties of the coating. The result revealed that the electroless Ni-P coating was compact and no obvious defects, and the content of phosphorus was about 5.61mass%.The hardness values of the Ni-P coating were about 350.5 HV.The corrosion potential Ecorr was-1.30 V.A few dots occurred after immersion test in 3.5% NaCl solution for 48 hours, which revealed that the Ni-P coating exhibited good corrosion reistan-ce properties in protecting the magnesium-lithium alloy.
