Abstract
The bentonite from Xiu-Mei has been modified by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide after it was treated by sodium carbonate. The cation-exchange capacity and the amount of methylene blue absorption of the bentonite treated by sodium carbonate were determined. Some influence factors on modified reactions such as reaction temperature and reaction time and so on were discussed. The quality of organobentonite was investigated by means of IR and TG-DTA and determination of viscosity. The results show that the bentonite from Xiu-Mei can be made to organo-bentonite.
