Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the possible relationship between insulin like growth factor 1(IGF 1)and diabetic peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients.Methods: The levels of IGF 1,the clinical and laboratory items in 97cases of type 2 diabetes(32 with peripheral neuropathy and 65 without peripheral neuropathy)were measured.Results: The peripheral neuropathy group had significant lower levels of IGF 1 compared to non peripheral neuropathy group and control subjects(P0.01),No significant difference was found between non peripheral neuropathy group and control subjects.The levels of serum IGF 1 were negatively correlated with age,HbA 1C and duration of the disorder.Conclusions: Decreased IGF 1 in diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy may contribute to the pathogensis of neuropathy.
