Anti-globalization Movement:From the Prospect of New Social Movement Theory

There is great similarity between anti-globalization movements at the end of 1990s and that of at the end of 1960s. By analyzing the definition and characteristics of social movements and New Social Movements, this paper examines theories of New Social Movements, such as modernization contradiction, post-materialist, resource mobilization and political opportunity structure, so that further explores the issues in anti-globalization movements. It argues that anti-globalization movement is an embodiment of New Social Movements under new international background, and to some extent, contributes new ideas to New Social Movement theory.
