Abstract
This paper overviews the research progress on the experimental, theoretical and numerical simulation methods of sheet metal forming limit and forming limit stress diagram. Some new theoretical prediction methods are introduced, and the application of inverse approach and the ductile fracture criteria are discussed. The existing problems on numerical methods predicting sheet metal forming limit are brought out.It is pointed out that a method that can minimally relies on external conditions and indicates the material ability is expected to be worked out.
