Abstract
The chromosome number and karyotype of four species of Agapanthus(A.praecox ssp.orientalis 'Big Blue',A.comptonii ssp.longitubus,A.praecox ssp.orientalis,A.praecox ssp.minimus 'Storms River') were studied by squash method.The results showed that their chromosome number was 30 and their karyotype belonged to 2B.The results also indicated that the karyotype formula of four species of Agapanthus as follows: karyotype formula of A.praecox ssp.orientalis 'Big Blue' was 2n=2x=30=20m+6sm+2M+2st;karyotype formula of A.comptonii ssp.longitubus was 2n=2x=30=18m+10sm+2M;karyotype formula of A.praecox ssp.orientalis was 2n=2x=30=16m+12sm+2st;karyotype formula of A.praecox ssp.minimus 'Storms River' was 2n=2x=30=12m+14sm+2M+2st.The asymmetry index(As.K %) was 59.67%,59.70%,62.90% and 63.30%,respectively.
