A Brief Analysis of Romantic Elements in Phillip Freneau's Poems

Being regarded as the Father of American poetry,Phillip Freneau was the most important poet in American poet in 18th century.His poems were at once classical as influenced by 18th English poems and romantic with their lyric beauty,their sensuous imagery and their fresh perception of nature.This paper gives a brief analysis of the romantic elements in his poems mainly in terms of his nature poems,his poems about death and his poems about American Indians.Thus the author concludes that,Phillip Freneau was a precursor of American Romanticism,and the romantic elements of his poems had in no small extent influenced the later poets.
