Abstract
The Maqu placer gold deposit is located in the Qamdo district of the Eastern Tibet. It lies in the famous “Sanjiang” metallogenic belt — the eastern part of the Alps Hymalayan orogenic zone. On the basis of the study of the geological characteristics of a placer gold deposit, and the heavy sand mineral composition as well as the major heavy mineral characteristics. The deposit is thought to be a proximal placer gold deposit and related to the Gegonglong porphyry copper gold deposit located in the south of the placer gold deposit. The placer gold concentrated in the lower part of the mud bearing sandy gravel of the overflow land. The dimensions , grades and stability of the ore bodies are obviously controlled by the shape of the overflow land in the river vally.
