Clinical application of CT virtual bronchoscopy in the diagnosis of central lung cancer

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the clinical application of CT virtual bronchoscopy (CTVB) in the diagnosis of central lung cancer.Methods:Thirty six cases with central lung cancer underwent volume scanning using spiral CT.The virtual bronchoscopy pictures were obtained by the workstation.Results:CTVB could reveal 100% segmental bronchus and 45% subsegmental bronchus.CTVB showed can show the innev wall of dronchus and trachea and tumor in the lumen,the tumor appeared as nodules with smooth surface.CTVB was better in revealing the distal segment of bronchial obstruction.Conclusion:CTVB is a noninvasive method of observing the airway.It simulates the images observed under fiberoptic bronchoscopy.It is complementary in examing central lung cancer.
