On the Oath of Allegiance in the Early Zhou Dynasty

As a means of political tactic,the oath of alliance played an important role in overthrowing the Shang dynasty and establishing the Zhou dynasty,then it became a form of government after Zhougong conquered the region of Shang completely.When the seigneur swore fealty to gods on the feudal ceremony,the king had got a permanent affiliation with the seigneur except lineal consanguinity,which was supervised by gods every time.Meanwhile the seigneur recruited the Shang people into Zhou clan by swearing fealty to them,and expanded the regime base of the Zhou Dynasty.
