Abstract

Based on the measured data and the experimental results of physical model, the water and sediment characteristics and the flow characteristics of the bend reach of the lower Yellow River are analyzed for the study on the dynamics principle of the water and sediment for the cut-off works to be constructed therein, and meanwhile, the flow and sediment diversion is studied as well.It is showed that, the water and sediment condition is one of the key factors to affect the scouring and deposition development of the approach channel.During the construction of the cut-off works, the water and sediment conditions must be selected to meet the requirements of both the water and sediment characteristics of the Yellow River and the flow characteristics in bend reach. At the same time, the hydraulic condition for the evolution of the approach channel must be chosen as favorable as possible.
