Abstract
Network survivability is an important factor in high-speed telecom networks. A method to quantitatively analyze the survivability of EPON access networks was used to analyze the relationship between network survivability and the intensity of the network damage. The result can be used to forecast and evaluate the survivability of EPON access networks. Comparison of the survivability of three kinds of EPON access network backups showed that the survivability of EPON networks with Node-Fiber Backup is better than with Trunk-Fiber Backup for the same coverage area. When the number and distribution of ONU are the same, the survivability of EPON networks with Bus-Fiber Backup is better than with Node-Fiber Backup. These conclusions can be used to design the topology for EPON access networks.
