Applied anatomy of the supra-cavernous sinus segment of oculomotor nerve

Abstract

Objective:To study the applied anatomy and clinical significance of the supra-cavernous sinus segment of oculomotor nerve.Methods:After ten craniums were instillated ,the adjacency and blood supply of the oculomotor nerves were observed.Results:The dorsal surface of superior cavernous sinus sticks to hippocampi,inside of it abut on optic chiasma,posterior communicating artery;superior-lateral of it abut on anterior choroidal artery,the ventral surface of it stick to dorsum saddle.It was found that 80 percent of the superior cavenous sinus segment of the oculomotor nerve had no nourishing vessels to enter,but 20 percent of the segment mentioned above had one or two branches of the posterior communicating artery to enter.Conclusion:The supra-cavernous sinus segment of oculomotor nerves and their nourishing vessles should be discerned and protected especially when operated in superior margin of cavernous sinus because its neurovascular relationships are complicated and the nourishing vessels are tiny.
