Abstract

The method of transient is applied to predict the Radar Cross Section(RCS) of a three-dimensional target over a frequency band based on Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) method. The theory of FDTD method is elaborated, and the application of transient method to FDTD is researched. The RCS of 3D metallic cube and dielectric cube over a frequency band are computed and the results are consistent with those of literature available.Hence the method is shown to be correct and effective. The RCS over a frequency band of a notched and hollow metallic sphere is computed, and that of a notched dielectric cube is also calculated. The results are then analyzed. It is proved through all the calculation that the approach is reliable, efficient and accurate.
