Abstract

Effects of water stress on the level of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and activities of antioxidant enzymes in the leaves of wheat(Triticum durum Desf.) seedlings were investigated.Water stress resulted in significant increase in the contents of O-.2,MDA and the activities of superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase in wheat leaves. However, the activities of glutathione reductase, catalase and the content of H2O2 were not changed obviously under water stress. These results suggested that superoxide dismutase and ascorbate peroxidase may play important roles in the responses of wheat to water stress.
