Abstract
Objective To evaluate the results of transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects(ASD) using occlusion device. Methods Transthoracic or transesophageal echocardiography(TTE or TEE) was used in diagnosis of six patients with secundum ASD, guidance of their transcatheter closure through minimally invasive transthoracotomy, and evaluation of their results at 1 week, 1 and 3 months after occlusion. Results All six patients were treated successfully, and a minor recidual shunt was found in one patient who had two ASD repaired by one occluder; some parameters such as dimension of right ventricle and pulmonary artery, pulmonary artery pressure recovered to normal range in 3 months. Conclusion Echocardiography was important to evaluating occlusion results as well as the selection of patients in transcatheter closure of atrial septal defects.\;
