Abstract
Objective:To summarize the experience for carotid body tumor and surgical treatment.Methods:Thirty-six tumors were resected in 35 cases, among tham, 21 tumors were simplex enucleation with preservation of cartotid vassels, 3 tumors with externa carotid artery were resected, 2 cases of externa carotid artery substituted for the internal carotid artery that was resected, 6 excision of tumor and carotid bifurcation with revascularization of the internal carotid artery, 2 end-to-end anastomosis of internal carotid cartery, angioplasty and ligation of carotid artery were 1 case, respectively. Operation underwent the general anesthesia, 12 local cooling made use of ice-cup at head. Results: The mortality of perioperative period was 2.8%. There were 5 postoperative complications that included Horner′s syndrome and cranial nerves injury. 29 patients were followed-up survey from 1 to 25 years with no recurrence. Conclusion: Operation is the most effective way to cure carotid body tumor. Protection of brain and retainer complete of internal carotid artery is important measure that reduce the postoperative complication.
