A 2 year field experihent cQducte~ afNew Delhi revealed that pendimethalin (pre-emergence) and lsoproturon ( w ) applied after first irfigdion were more effecrive against both &sy and broad-leaved weeds, whereas 2,4-D and fluroxypyr only against broad-leaved weeds In wheat (Tntrcum aestlvum L. ) . Isoproturon ( w ) mixed w ~ t hurea and soil were less effective as cornoared to emend Fiori & Paol , . . . their spray application. Hand-weeding resulted in higher grain yield in both the years, but was at par with pendimethalin and isoproturon ( w and its suspension) applied aftir irrigation in 1991-92, but proved superior to isoproturon (suspension) in 1992-93. No significant difference was observed between pendimethalin and isoproturon ( w and suspension) when applied after first irrigation. Increase in grain yield was up to 18 and 12 qha in 1991 -32 and : respectively. 992-33
