Adrenal hemorrhage (report of 9 cases)

Objective To evaluate adrenal hemorrhage and its characteristic features. Methods 9 cases of adrenal hemorrhage confirmed by surgery and pathology between Feb.1976 and Feb.1999 were reviewed and studied. Results The adrenal hemorrhage in all the 9 cases was unilateral with various clinical manifestations, but no massive hemorrhage and adrenal insufficiency were observed. B ultrasonography was done in 8 cases, computerized tomography in 5 and magnetic resonance imaging in 2. US showed a heterogeneous adrenal mass whereas CT and MRI showed variable appearance with no contrast enhancement. On pathological evaluation most of hematomas were old and organized. The therapeutic results were satisfactory. Conclusions Preoperative diagnosis is quite difficult.US、CT and MRI are important for the diagnosis.
