Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)combined silicone oil tamponade for acute endophthalmitis on eyes without detachment of retina. Methods This study analyses a retrospective case series of 15 eyes(15 patients),who underwent PPV combined silicone oil tamponade for acute endophthalmitis without retinal detachment. The postoperative visual acuity、infective change and reoperations were observed. Results During a follow-up of 3 to 18 months, intraocular infection of 15 eyes(15 patients)were controlled.Except a patient occurring retinal detachmental after removel of silicone oil,no eye needed further surgery in all these cases.Postoperative visual acuity improved in 13 eyes and remained unchanged in 1 eyes.Eyeball atrophy occurred in 1 eye. Conclusions Pars plana vitrectomy combined with silicone oil tamponade might be beneficial in the treatment strategy of severe acute endophthalmitis.
