On the Discrimination of "Words" in "Tranquility of Mind" Suggested by Mencius and Gaozi

Abstract

According Gaozi,one should not resort one's will if he can not defeat others with words.Only in this way,can he get the tranquility of mind.While Mencius thought to understand the is the right way.The difference lies in the different ways that they treat words: On one hand,Gaozi judged words on the basis of meanings;on the other hand,Mencius understood words through mind.
