Abstract
Judging from the literature and archaeological data,we find that the society in the Yao and Shun age has many clans.During this period,the Grass-roots organizations are clans and the social organizations are the association of clans.There are mainly two characteristics of inequality and social stratification in the society of clans.Judging from the characteristics of the society of clans,the Yao and Shun age belongs to the later period of chiefdoms.
