Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of astragalus on serum and liver tissue TGF-β1 level in immature rats with obstructive jaundice(OJ).Methods Forty immature male Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group, sham operation group,OJ group,OJ+astragalus group. In OJ+astragalus group,astragalus(250 mg/100 g body weight) were given for 7 days. The content of TGF-β1 in serum and liver tissue in rats was detected by ELISA.Results The level of serum TGF-β1 was higher in OJ group and OJ+astragalus group than that in normal control group and sham group. The level of TGF-β1 of liver tissue in OJ+astragalus was lower in than that in OJ group. The morphologic changes of the liver ameliorates in OJ+astragalus group. Conclusion The astragalus helps to improve the liver morphology, decreases the process of liver fibrosis in immature rats with obstructive jaundice.
