Influence of Smoking to the Antihypertensive Effects of α_1 Receptor Blocker and Calcium Channel Blocker in Patients of Hypertension

Objective To investigate the influence of smoking on the therapeutic effects of hypertensive drugs: α_1 receptor blocker and calcium channel blocker.Methods Three hundred fifty-five hypertension patients were re- ceived:terazosin or amlodipine or combination of them.All patients underwent 4 weeks treatment and the influence of smoking history on the effects of different drugs was evaluated.Results The response rate of terazosin treated patients in the people without smoking history was 79%,compared with 40% in the people with smoking history, including whom stop smoking in one year.Analogously,in the amlodipine treated patients,the response rate in the patients with smoking history had similar but not significant tendency(P0.05).Conclusion Smoking reduce the response rate of α_1 receptor blocker terazosin treatment,the effect of calcium channel blocker amlodipine was not as remarkable as that by terazosin.
