Abstract

In order to enhance the reliability of trimaran side hull position optimization, the nonlinear wave making resistance prediction program with consideration of sinkage and trim was developed by extending the code for mono hull. The wave making resistance of the trimarans with 15 different side hull positions were calculated, and the numerical results were compared with the calculated results by the Michell method and the linear Dawson type method, and they were also compared with the experimental data. The compar-isons show that the nonlinear method can predict the trimaran wave making characteristics better, and is much more suitable for the optimization of the trimaran side hull position than the other two numerical methods.
