Hydro Power Development in China's Energy Strategy

Hydropower is renewable green energy. The development of hydropower plays an important role in the progress of national economy and social development. Therefore the development of hydropower is placed in the first place in most of the countries in the world. China is one of those countries that are rich in hydropower resources. However, the rate of hydropower exploitation and utilization is only 27% in China. Based on a brief analysis of the current situation of hydropower construction and energy resource, this paper points out that hydropower development at full-scale is an inevitable choice not only for energy strategy, but also for sustainable development of the economy, society and ecological environment in China. Moreover, the paper provides some useful advices on how to realize sustainable development in future.
