On the Iconicity of the Construction of Chinese Characters

Abstract

This paper reexamines the motivation of the construction of Chinese characters from the perspective of iconicity theory.It contends that the construction of Chinese characters has developed from imagic iconicity to diagrammatic iconicity.And the reason of this developmental process lies in the economy of language use,the peculiarity of Chinese characters and the unique way of Chinese thinking.
