Sustainable development of the fisheries resources and the environment in mariculture

Along with the fast development of mariculture in China,some serious problems appeared,due to aquaculture planning lag and the environment decline.In this paper,the scientific background and objectives,and the methodologies for studying on carrying capacity of fish,shellfish and seaweeds of the Zhejiang key project,entitled Study on the impacts of mariculture on marine ecosystems and the assessment on the carrying capacity of mariculture in some key aquacultural bays were briefly described.It exhibited some new approaches of the studies on aquatic ecology and evaluation of carrying capacity of mariculture.Well coastal environment and harmony between the living resources and the environment are precondition for supporting healthy and sustainable development of mariculture.The progresses and shortages in management of mariculture in China were reviewed.Some scientific proposals for the improvements of technique and management of mariculture were made in this paper.
