Abstract
Objective: To observe the change of salivary flow rate and pH after chewing xylitol gum in fixed appliance. Methods:Salivary flow rate and pH were measured before and after chewing gum in 40 patients with fixed appliance. Results:Salivary flow rate and pH were increased significantly after chewing xylitol gum, excpt of the increasing of pH There's no significant difference at 0~1minutes after chewing xylitol gum. Conclusion:Chewing xylitol gum would help for preventing and treating enamel demineralization with fixed appliance.
