Abstract

According to the monthly Northern Pacific sea surface temperature(SST) dataset of Hadley center for the period 1974 to 2006 and the monthly northern hemisphere 500hPa height field and 1000hPa height field dataset of NCEP/NCAR from 1974 to 2006,the variation characteristics of Pacific sea surface temperature and the correlation between the SST key region in January and atmospheric fields are studied by using the one-variable linear regression method and the correlation analysis method. The results are as follows: the location with the larger variation of the North Pacific SST lies in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean adjacent to the east of China, where the annual trend of every month is ascending during 1975 and 2006.Among the correlation between the key region sea temperature in January and atmospheric fields, preceding December and January, are more significant which shows that the atmosphere influences the key region sea temperature. The most remarkable correlation area lies in the key region and Northwestern Pacific ocean. The relations between the key region sea temperature and the West pacific Subtropical high are emphatically analyzed. The SST of key region in January is closely related with the lagged atmosphere in April,May and June which indicates that higher the key region SST is,the stronger the West Pacific Subtropic high.
