Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of fixed-combination of benazepril and very low dose hydrochlorothiazide in the treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension. Methods The multicenter, random samples ,double-blind, active-controlled study has been processed. The cases whose blood pressure treated by 10 mg per day benazepril single for 4 weeks were not to the target should be enered into two groups double-blindly,one group treated with fixed-combination of benazepril and very low dose hydrochlorothiazide(10 mg/12.5 mg),and another with benazepril(20 mg) only. The treatment period was 8 weeks. Results Compared with the control, trial group lowered sitting-blood pressure to 9.7 mm Hg (6.71%) of systolic presure and 8.71 mm Hg (9.41%) of diastolic presure after 8 weeks treatment. At the end of the treatment peroid, the total effective rate of fixed-combination of benazepril is 69.3%. The average T/P ratio of trial group is 74.38%.For the safety/tolerance, there are 19.13% incidences of adverse events regarded relatively with fixed-combination of benazepri. Most of them are cough. Conclusion Fixed-combination of benazepril (benazepril 10mg plus hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg) administered once daily is well tolerated and reduces blood pressure in patients with mild to moderate hypertension.
