Culture-loaded Meanings of Political Words and Language Strategy

Most words have not only dictionary meanings, but also culture-loaded meanings. It is of great significance to have a thorough understanding of culture-loaded meanings of words and to translate them appropriately into a foreign language. Through analyses and comparisons of the culture-loaded meanings of some typical political words in English and Chinese, the author attempts to explore the phenomenon, types and reasons of misunderstanding, mistranslation and misleading of their implications. Focusing on the theoretical meanings and practical values in emphasizing the study of culture-loaded meanings of words, the author also proposes such techniques for dealing with culture-loaded words as creative formation, correct choice, clever borrowing, literal translation and transliteration.
