Abstract
Objective To discuss the clinical value of transcatheter arterial embolization for urgent treatment of severe hemorrhage caused by pelvic fracture.Materials and Methods 15 cases with severe hemorrhage due to pelvic fracture who had been failed of conservative therapy, were accepted angiography and embolization in 2-5 hours after trauma. The internal iliac arteries and other target arteries were embolized with glutine sponge or steel coils. Results Except for 1 case died in the course of angiography, the other 14 cases were successfully accepted embolization, the successful rate was 93.3% (14/15). Bleeding was controlled immediately after embolization, the effective rate was 100%(14/14), 12 cases were cured, and 2 cases were died of DIC or brain trauma. No serious complications occurred. Conclusion Transcatheter arterial embolization is a more effective, safe and easy method of controlling the severe hemorrhage caused by pelvic fracture.
